MAPSS Annual Meeting

October 22th, 2011 Start at 10 am

 

Called to order by President Mark Abney at 10 am at the St Clair county Health Department.

 

Old Business

 

                Envirothon

 

Disscussion on support for the contests. It was ageed that MAPPS would continue to support the efforts as it has always done

                                Continue to give Menfro T-shirts to the highest scoring soils team at the state contest

                                Continue to give $50 donations to the Southwest and Northwest regional competitions.

                Both items passed.

 

 

                FFA

                                There was much talk about what support was needed for the FFA practice contests.

 

Book - Curiosities of Missouri Soils

 

Clayton had brought up to the group that a handout be put together following JP’s template. A committee was put together to head up the efforts and try and develop methods of distribution of the product.

Clayton Lee reported on the work done at Prairie Forks conservation area  by various boy scouts

 

 

New Business

 

Mark Abney proposed that the Winter meeting with election of officers be moved to the Fall and the summer meeting be moved to late spring. These new times would allow for field tours in conjunction with the meetings.

 The proposal passed by show of hands.

 

 

Jamie Patton announced the Northwest Missouri State University would be hosting the Collegate soils judging competition next fall and that there would be approximately 15 pits open that could be used for tours and educational opportunities.

 

 

Mark Abney proposed that Mapss members provided certified training to septic installers so that they could receive the needed CEU’s. It was suggested that monies received from the trainings be used to fund scholarships for college juniors and seniors majors in soils related fields. Mark stated that he would put together training materials and get them approved by the department of health for use.

The proposal was accepted by a showing of hands.

 

The membership proposed and agreed to give Marge Lynn-Tapeley a $100 gift card for her years of service to the organization at her retirement celebration on October 31, 2011.
